Here’s what happened at Book Club!
What’s better than Book Club?????? Why a tea party of course!
And a tea party we had, complete with itty bitty cups, a furry caterpillar, cupcakes that said ‘Eat Me’, wine that said ‘Drink Me’ and our pretty Alice-like host!
It seems that Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland may be best left for children (minus the hookah pipe, perhaps?) – for these adults at least it was much too frantic and tangly. She’s big, she’s small, she doesn’t have the key, she’s big again, still no key, dishes flying…. ‘off with their heads!” … ‘PIG’… OMG stop the madness!!!!
Then there was the cat… smarten up Alice! If you want to make friends stop bringing up the G%&damn cat.
There was some discussion about how the whole story brought back memories of university days for one of us…. hallucinogens anyone?
Oddly enough we all had the sense that we knew parts of the story and were familiar with the characters but couldn’t remember ever reading the book. Very odd. It would have been interesting to remember how we felt reading it as children with more boundless imaginations.
We talked about whether the Duchess was in fact sweet (hmmm…ok), that Alice was a bit of a brat, oh and did she ever come out? Then there was of course the back story of author Lewis Carroll (we’ll leave it you to Google that). Was it in fact a children’s story, a mathematical riddle or just a really bad mushroom trip? Who the heck knows!
We DO know it was a great reason to get together, catch up on each other’s lives after the summer and hear a lovely story about an uncle in war-time.
Thank you Pam for hosting this wonderfully enchanted tea party. You made it a very special evening. And for all of you who fell down a rabbit hole on the way home… don’t panic it was just a pot hole – Pyramid Construction will be patching it soon 🙂 .
