Here’s what happened at Book Club…
A lovely night Wormies! It was one of our shortest “official” discussions but a fun night. We all agreed that this book and our main character, centurion Allan Karlsson, was the European Forrest Gump. Instead of “Life is like a Box of Chocolates” Allan’s philosophy (paraphrased with a Newfoundland twist of course) was “sure…what odds“.
Half of us thought the book was a good read and managed to make it all the way through. The other half thought it was a bit tedious and skipped a scattered page or two. But we did get a few laughs – parts of the story from an elephant’s perspective, bodies ending up here and there, the visual image of a 100 year old arse poking out the window & Benny’s ‘almost’ an everything – to mention a few.
Our host asked the innocent question, “So….did you ever wonder what you’d look like as an old person?’ Despite the striking lack of curiosity from the ladies, an ipad was immediately produced with pictures of each of us in a much more ‘mature’ stage of life. That caused a few laughs as you can see by the image below. Need to pop out for a bit of anti-aging cream, me thinks!
Since the night was still young and we still had wine to drink and a wicked brushetta to eat 🙂 we thought it would be a good opportunity to catch up. We each talked about what was happening in our lives, the good, the bad and the ugly. Usually our meetings are focused on the book we’re reading and a dozen conversations at once. It was really fun to learn what was going on with everyone.
Looking forward to seeing you all next month!!
