Here’s what happened at Book Club…
Our Book Club rocks!!!
We eat, drink, sell tickets, discuss where to find sex workers, how much they make, the horrors of duckf%#k, weird and wacky binocular and accordion gifts, healthcare in Canada, the US & Norway, Oh! and books..of course books too…all in a couple of hours.
Our group was divided on this book – a story of romance set in China during the cultural revolution. A few thought it was a beautiful story, beautifully told with the bonus being the historical backdrop. Others thought it was reminiscent of a Harlequin Romance – I love him, I hate him, he loves me, he’s forgotten me. The innocence of Jingqiu was believable for some and not very for others. We did all agree that she was a little TOO perfect – she was a top athlete, a poet, an expert seamstress, she worked as hard as a man and could carry as much or more, even when the skin peeled from her perfect ‘little’ feet… and to top it all off she was beautiful.
Kelly didn’t have internet at work and had to rely on the questions at the end of the book for our discussion. This lead to a discussion all on its own. The questions sucked!! But Kelly redeemed herself with the apple cinnamon cake… we’re not a complicated crowd. Liz took a stand and refused to answer several of the questions on the grounds that… well… they sucked. Did we mention Kelly had no internet at work?
We had a wonderful grand night. And with any luck one of us will end up with a night on the town or a trip with WestJet. (Note to Westjet crew – Kelly would like for you to thank HER as she disembarks.) There would have been a chance for booze to accompany each but Toddy couldn’t make the meeting 🙁
Thank you Kelly for hosting a great meeting and thank you to your sisters for the grub, because…yup, you had no internet at work! Till next time wormies!
